Muskoka Summer Hockey School brings players back to Gravenhurst’s arena

GRAVENHURST — Hockey, hockey, hockey.
School, school, school.
Kids keen on improving their skills — in the ever-ending all-year quest for improvement — are back in school for what to some players and families seems like an ever-ending cycle now as they seek the cutting edge for next season whatever town or city they play in.
Mike Fountain’s Muskoka Summer School is just one of the fun camps for young players he runs with friend Derek Schofield.
The long-time training centre at the Graeme Murray Arena at the Gravenhurst Community Centre is celebrating 30 years of improving players’ game from July 20-31.
With more than a dozen staff and volunteers the on/off ice experience has proven popular again this summer, led by the always-smiling owner who had a shut-out in his first NHL game with the Vancouver Canucks.
Fountain, who grew up playing in the same rink is always positive with hands-on drills and encouragement.
The school ends its first week Friday with a second week to come.
